Online ...Portrait Painting Class
Start time: June 17th-July 22nd
Wednesdays: 5:30-7:45... 6 sessions... $135.
We will be using a limited palette.. oil or water-soluble oil paint.
In this online class, we’ll explore how to create an underpainting by drawing with paint and noting the value patterns to create form. We will review the proportions of the head and the structure of individual features... We’ll explore techniques to insure accuracy and develop a toolbox of skills that will allow us to take on one of the most challenging forms of art... The Portrait! This class will serve beginning and intermediate artists alike!
* This class will be offered live online... so you can ask questions, watch demos, paint along and send in your work for critiques. Each class comes with a Vimeo video of the class, so you can watch the class at your convenience .. if you should miss the “actual class”. I’ll look forward to having you join this intriguing and exciting journey!

I have been featured in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society (NOAPS) 25th Annual Best of America Exhibit! My painting "Ari" is being featured in a promo for the event, and will be running in American Art Collector magazine.

Painting Demo: "My Angel"

Greetings... They have alas published the Fall NVC Cataolgue ... AND our class is on the cover!!!
I wanted to share a recent portrait I did of my beautiful daughter... I have often used her as a model in the past for various genres of painting. This most recent one is her current look in the REAL world during my most recent visit to see her in Portland... please see her on my Home Page of my website: @ http://deirdreshibano.com
Here is a quick overview of the process, such as I teach in our class... I really believe in this method, so you can work out the kinks before committing to color, and overall design. It's also an example of incorporating a background which is indicative or supportive of the subject matter... At first I was thinking of a feeling of landscape behind her, but then I know her energy and drive, and this background of knife-work, abstracted shapes evolved... At a certain point, the paintings usually dictate what to do next!
oil/canvas 20x24, and so it goes!
Remember ... Patience and a compilation of skills!
I will be limiting this class size to 18 artists, so I have more time with individuals ...
